VAT increase affects Kapseli prices and controllers’ extraction fees

From September 1, 2024, a change in the value-added tax rate will come into effect in Finland. The general VAT rate will increase from the current 24% to 25.5%. This change will impact the pricing of Findata’s secure Kapseli processing environment and the fees for controllers’ data extraction.

Kapseli’s prices are commercially priced paid services that include value-added tax.

The VAT increase will apply to the following Kapseli services:

  • Kapseli monthly fee
  • Customisation of Kapseli, such as installing tools or changing the environment
  • Kapseli pause service
  • Data storage service
  • Any additional services

For example, the Kapseli S-machine package with Windows operating system costs EUR 147.50 per month excluding VAT. With the 25.5% VAT added, the tax amounts to EUR 37.60 (0.255 x 147.50).

Therefore, starting from September 1, 2024, the total cost for the subscription will be EUR 185.10 per month (147.50 + 37.60), whereas it was previously EUR 182.90.

Kapseli is a monthly subscription service, so the VAT rate is determined based on the end of the billing period. For instance, the VAT rate of 24% will apply to the August 2024 monthly fee, and the VAT rate of 25.5% will apply to the September 2024 monthly fee.

The VAT on controllers’ extraction fees is determined by the delivery date of the data

Controllers set their own costs and VAT according to their own regulations. However, the increase in the general VAT rate may affect extraction costs for data delivered after September 1, 2024.

If a controller has provided a cost estimate for extraction with a 24% VAT, but the data is delivered to Findata after September 1, 2024, the VAT on the extraction costs will be 25.5% at the time of invoicing.

The VAT increase will not affect Findata’s public law services, such as decision fees or hourly rates for data processing, which are not subject to VAT.
