Competition and quality: A study of the Finnish patient choice reform in healthcare

A patient choice reform was launched in January of 2014 in Finland, and patient can now chose their care provider in non-urgent specialised health care. Freedom of choice introduced competition between care units in the health sector. I will use the data to calculate the competition between hospitals in their own regional market. Afterwards, I will study econometrically whether the higher competition increased quality outcomes in the healthcare units.
