The Windows servers of Kapseli environments will be updated to a new version during 2026. The updates start on 7 September 2026 and proceed at a target rate of approximately ten Kapseli environments per week.
The Windows Server 2016 version currently in use is becoming outdated, and its official support ends in early 2027. The servers will be updated to Windows Server 2025 so that Kapseli remains secure and convenient to use in the coming years.
The update changes the appearance of Kapseli to match Windows 11. The latest server version also improves information security, and new tools will be added to the environment. The update does not cause a service break.
How the server update proceeds
- We notify Kapseli users and contact persons by email at least seven days before the migration.
- The new Kapseli environment is deployed. The contents of the current environment are transferred automatically.
- Deployments are carried out in stages, approximately ten Kapseli environments per week. A new environment may be deployed on any day of the week from Monday to Friday.
- On the Monday of the week following deployment, the old Kapseli environment is shut down and the user works only in the new environment.
- The user has one calendar week to report any issues in the new environment.
- If the user does not report any issues within that week, the deployment is considered accepted and the old, shut down Kapseli environment is deleted. Any modifications or corrections reported after this point are subject to a fee.
What users need to do
Log in to Kapseli before the server update. This ensures that the Roaming profiles update made in May 2026 has been activated and that files on the desktop and in the Documents and Downloads folders, along with application settings, are saved automatically to the network drive instead of the local C: drive.
If additional software has been installed in your Kapseli environment, or other customisations have been made, you can make sure they are carried over to the new server version by reporting them to kapseli@findata.fi before the update. You can also let us know if you no longer need some of the earlier customisations.
Test that the new environment works as soon as the old Kapseli environment has been shut down, and report any issues within one week.
When testing, check that the datasets, software and any earlier software or performance modifications are unchanged.
If you notice any issues, report them to kapseli@findata.fi using the subject line “Issues in updated Kapseli environment”.
Datasets, software and invoicing
- Software, settings and datasets stored on the network drive are transferred to the new Kapseli environment automatically. Users do not need to move anything themselves.
- Default software will be updated to the latest approved versions as part of the server update. Maintaining older versions is subject to a fee. If you want to continue using an older version of a particular software, submit a Kapseli change order after the update.
- The old and new Kapseli environments cannot be used in parallel. The old environment is shut down on the Monday of the week following the deployment of the new environment.
- Changing the environment does not affect Kapseli invoicing.
