Specialised medical care
Specialised medical care involves the diagnosis and treatment of more complex health issues across medical specialties, for example operations. Access to this care typically requires a referral from primary healthcare and follows a structured care pathway.
Specialised medical care is provided mainly in hospitals. Each wellbeing services county has either a central hospital or a university hospital.
Each wellbeing services county belongs to one of five collaborative areas. Each area has one university hospital, which provides highly specialised medical care.
