Impact of chronic inflammatory (CID) and autoimmune diseases (AID) on the risk of offspring

Chronic inflammatory diseases (CIDs) such as IBD, diabetes mellitus (DM), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), coeliac disease (COE), and MS have increased markedly during the recent decades in all Westernized countries, suggesting shared disease mechanisms and etiologies across the diseases. In Finland the prevalence of IBD has increased >18 times during the past 36 years based on KELA imbursement data. Study aims: 1) the heritage of CID and AID, 2) their co-occurance, genetic and enviromental factors.
