FinHITS – Strengthening Finnish Health Data ICT for Secondary Use

FinHITS is a four-year project (2023–2027) co-funded by the European Union. In the project, we strengthen Finland’s health data infrastructure for the secondary use of health data and prepare Finland for the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

Findata was established in 2019 following the enforcement of the Act on the Secondary Use of Health and Social Data. This made Finland one of the first EU countries with a dedicated health data permit authority.

The EHDS regulation sets new requirements for national health data infrastructures. Through FinHITS, we develop Findata’s services to meet these requirements and share our experiences with other Health Data Access Bodies (HDABs) building their own systems.

Coming up in the project

In autumn 2026, we will launch a new e-service that streamlines applications for data permits, data requests and amendment permits.
